Kicking off a great partnership for 2019
In just two years, Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), in partnership with AFL Victoria, have upgraded 60 club canteens across the state to be safer for volunteers and the community.
AFL Victoria and Energy Safe Victoria kicked off their 2019 partnership over the weekend with the Energy Safe Victoria Country U/19 representative football team taking on the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) U/19 side in the Challenge Cup at Elsternwick Park.
The partnership, which includes the Club Canteen Grants Program and inaugural Canteen Volunteer of the Year Award, helps ESV get its safety messages into the community.
“Our partnership with AFL Victoria means we can make a real difference to safety, where it really counts – in the club canteen – one club at a time,” says Victoria’s Director of Energy Safety, Paul Fearon.
The Club Canteen Grants Program helps clubs replace old, unsafe equipment with new, safe, energy efficient appliances with grants of up to $1,000.

Canteens also receive a range of display signage with messages about community safety, including carbon monoxide awareness, household wiring and gas BBQ safety.
“We’ve had applications from thriving clubs in growing suburbs and from clubs struggling to keep rural communities together in tough and tragic times. Our safety messages apply to everyone across the state.
“We can’t fix everything, but we can make the local canteen safer for everyone,” said Mr Fearon.
ESV is pleased to announce 30 clubs from across Victoria will receive grants this year. Over 100 clubs applied, with many clubs matching requested funds with monies raised themselves.

The Canteen Volunteer of the Year Award acknowledges the special canteen person – or group of people – who dedicate their time and energy supporting the community.
Club members are encouraged to nominate their favourite canteen volunteer – or group of volunteers – for the upcoming Canteen Volunteer of the Year Award. More information via AFL Victoria, coming soon.
Energy Safe Victoria understands the important role of volunteers in keeping the fans fed and raising money for community sporting clubs.
