Lineworker licensing

From 1 January 2021 Energy Safe Victoria will introduce a new licensing regime for Lineworkers (including cable jointers). The regime will increase ESV’s visibility of the industry to ensure Lineworkers have the minimum qualifications and experience required to work safely on distribution, transmission and traction networks.

Distribution, transmission and traction Lineworkers (including cable jointers) will not be authorised to work without a licence after 1 January 2021, and fees may apply for licence applications after this date.

Licensing of Lineworkers is a priority for the Victorian Government and will help the industry to maintain a safe and suitably qualified workforce.

Registering as a lineworker

Both new and existing Lineworkers (and cable jointers) were required to register with ESV before 14 December 2020 to receive their first five-year licence on time and at no cost before the January deadline.

If you did not register before this deadline, email our Lineworker Licensing enquiries team at as soon as possible for further information.
